Counterfeit goods take health toll

January 5th, 2010

Lethal counterfeit drugs and cigarettes focus world attention on China as an exploitative trading partner. Toxic dry wall boards have been exported to the USA.

The USA group Global Piracy and Counterfeiting Consultants warns about the Sheq risks of using Chinese counterfeit goods. The Daily Telegraph of London reports that some people have died from counterfeit pharmaceuticals in Africa.

PRWEB reports that most Japanese take pride in their products, while most Chinese are out for profit at any cost. Toxic Chinese drywall is going to affect millions of USA homeowners and their families in ways that are not yet known, because there is no health data on the effects of exposure to wallboard

Americas Watchdog created the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center as a platform to share and gather information about toxic Chinese drywall and imported Chinese gypsum, that was then processed by USA manufacturers without proper safety testing protocols, reports Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter.Com

Toxic Chinese drywall effects include failed or degraded electrical systems, repeated air conditioning coil failures, upper respiratory impacts, nose bleeds, and severe headaches.

The worst symptoms appear to be in the USA southeast, due to extreme humidity, combined with high heat.

The time lines for imported counterfeit toxic Chinese drywall are 2001 to early 2009. Some builders have discovered Chinese drywall stamped ‘Made in the USA’, with phoney fire rating codes on the wallboard. Some Chinese drywall bear no markings.

Activists want stiff penalties for counterfeiting, re-engineering of patented products, and theft of intellectual property.
