Master Builders diploma in Construction HS

March 22nd, 2011

The Master Builders Association Gauteng 2010 cadets were first to qualify to a National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety at NQF Level 3.

The Construction health and safety training programme registered with SAQA, started in May 2010 with 23 candidates, of which nine were women. Nineteen of the students, aged between 19 and 57, were unemployed.

The graduates have already gained practical experience while posted to sites for long spells of practical work during training.

At the graduation, Colin de Kock, executive director of Master Builders Association (MBA) Gauteng, urged the students to continue their education to increase their marketability in the construction industry.

“There is a big demand for qualified health and safety personnel, despite the current slump in the building industry,” he said.

MBA Gauteng would continue to offer HSE training, hoping that students would qualify at future NQF Level 4 courses, de Kock said.

The 2010 cadets paid tribute to the MBA Gauteng efforts in initiating construction HS training, and vowed to continue their HSE studies.
