Green Buildings All The Rage
July 15th, 2009South Africa. ‘Energy-saving buildings seems to be all the rage in South Africa as enquiries from investors come flooding in,’ says Geoff Stroebel, general manager of Pam Golding Commercial.
Both new and existing buildings are being enquired about and ‘green’ building is becoming ever popular. Features such as harvesting, maximum use of natural light, solar energy, insulation and air quality in the building, are all questions that are being asked by aspirant tenants.
Already there is a tendency overseas for ‘green’ buildings to attract higher rentals, making perfect sense for investors to take this course of action. Green aspects can actually be measured in regard to the bottom line.
Overseas it has been reported that ‘green’ improvements are having a positive effect on work attendance which in turn means improved productivity.
With South Africa facing rapidly rising electricity and water tariffs, green buildings which address green issues such as these are bound to attract more tenants and lower vacancy rates that non-green buildings.
