Flash Fire Kills Another Worker

April 8th, 2009

Malawi. Paladin Energy Ltd reported on the 06th of April 2009 that another one of the three contract workers injured at Paladin’s Kayelekera project in Malawi died on Friday the 3rd of April 2009.

The first incident left three workers injured after solvent cleaning fluid used in a steel tank was ignited by an external source, causing a flash fire. The subcontractors were then flown to a South African hospital for burns treatment where one worker died.

The other two workers reportedly remained in stable condition until the death of the second subcontractor on the 3rd of April 2009.

The third worker is reportedly in a stable but serious condition in Milpark Hospital’s special burns unit and there is currently an inquiry into the circumstances of the accident.
