The day also formed part of the national TB screening campaign in the Northern Cape. According to Sr Magda America, district TB coordinator in the ZF Mgcawu District, TB is a worldwide crisis.
“Since there is a partnership between the Beeshoek Mine and the Department of Health, we decided to kick off our campaign as part of the SHE Day and to screen the employees of Beeshoek Mine as well.
“Currently we have more than 1000 people on TB treatment, including people at the Beeshoek Mine,” said America. “People who are co-infected are more than one third of the total TB cases reported.”
TB patients must go for treatment for at least six months to avoid becoming resistant to TB treatment.
Service providers, including Absa, Old Mutual and Standard Bank, assisted employees with financial and investment advice.
Katy Prior and her team of Avoir Corporate Health Care, as the new health partner in the mining sector at the mines of Beeshoek, Kolomela, Khumani, Sishen and Black Rock, introduced their services to Beeshoek Mine employees at their new offices.
Engineering manager Leon Venter and wellness supervisor Lekgotla Gaseemeloe thanked management, employees and their stakeholders for their participation.
