Worker Dies After Fire Injuries At Sasol

South Africa. Sasol (South African Synthetic oils) had to cease operations at their Secunda plant after a fire killed one worker and injured another two.

The deceased worker, Piet Smith, who was a senior process controller, died in the early hours of Friday the 13th.

Regarding the other two workers, Andre Du Preez was reported as being in critical condition while Paulus Sindane was not considered to be in critical condition.

Sasol chief executive Pat Davies wished to express his shock and sadness about the incident to the families, and affected families would be receiving couselling.

Sasol counsellors are reportedly assisting the affected families and Sasol staff at the Secunda operation.

It was also reported that investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.
