Cape Town: Africa Media owner, Rudy Maritz, announced today that the business have placed a moratorium on advertising that does not comply with the GDPR. This moratorium applies to all three SHEQ Magazines; Sheqafrica.com, (Africa) Sheqafrica.co.za (SA) and SheqForum.com (USA and Europe)
“Advertisers doing business in the EU, or have any affiliation with individuals within the EU, will have to provide evidence that their website to which we link from advertisements are in compliance with the GDPR. This would also apply to any affiliations with other entities that are non-compliant.”
“We completed a legal risk assessment and found a number of articles which referenced non-compliant entities via hyperlinks. We also no longer link advertisements to facebook pages. We removed all references to these entities. A total of 125 links were removed between 25 and 29 May 2018.” Maritz said.
“Our editorial staff are going through a total of 1757 articles written between 2007 and now, to look for links that could jeopardise our legal compliance rating.”
A number of advertisers who previously had advertorials written for them, have also been affected due to their connection to non-compliant software platforms collecting membership information on servers in the USA.
Africa Media did not publicly announce the affected parties, but all the affected advertisers will be invited to resubmit their content at no charge if they can provide reasonable validation of GDPR compliance.
